    Hi Lads,

    I am new to cycling, but I have been commuting on a racer for 2 years 10k each way.

    I am looking to try some longer spins but all cycling clubs ive looked at seem to be closed to beginners at this time of year?
    I can cycle at weekends after Septemebr as I play Rugby then is there any Cycle clubs or groups that a beginner could join in the summer?

    I am based in rathmines.

    Thanks

    Also interested in joining a club over the summer, But most seem to only take in new members between october and march.

    A lot of the clubs are really only advertising for new members that time of year for a couple of reasons;

    - There's little or no racing or events going on that time of year, so most of the club activity involves training spins, which are ideal for slotting in beginners. Focussed mid-season training or races are not the time for beginners to be joining in the pack.

    - If you get all the beginners to start in October, then fitness-wise they all progress together. A beginner who starts in March will be significantly behind those who started earlier.

    - You pay your subs for the upcoming year. Not really fair to ask people to pay a full years' subs for half a year

    All that said, not everybody in a club goes racing, so plenty of clubs still do unofficial club spins on a regular basis. Thinkbike in Rathmines afaik still go out most Sundays, so might be no harm dropping them a line to see if they would let you tag along.

    Check out leisure cycling ireland. Haven't been out with them, but they seem like an ideal fit for beginners and are always taking new members on. http://www.leisurecycling.ie/

    Have had a look at the website also. Have recently bought a racer. Living in Kilmainham and am eager to join a group. Do those guys train together or do they just meet at events?
