I have always used vinyl silk wall emulsion but recently got a matt by mistake. Are there any rules/tips for when one type is more suitable than the other? I am not sure which I prefer. Is one more suitable for where there is more natural lighting and is one more heavy wearing for area of high passing traffic?

    thanks :)

You are really in the wrong forum, but the only real difference between silk and matt is what it looks like. Silk is a bit more washable too. I would use matt in a bedroom and silk in a kitchen for example, and I would find that I prefer them depending on where they are used - silk can be a bit hard looking for a bedroom but looks fine in a downstairs room. I will get the hall, stairs and landing done with silk when I get round to redecorating.

Sorry I thought this a more 'artistic' question rather than DIY so could not find a more appropriate forum. Yes I have matt magnolia in a kitchen and think it is picking up more marks. Also I have silk vinyl on a anaglipta patterned paper and more suitable there as light shows up pattern.... below a dado rail on stairs etc.

    thanks.
