Check to make sure the speakers are set to on. Click on the speaker icon and select mixer and see if the default says "Speakers" in the device.
Did you update the driver lately?

Where is the speaker icon exactly? In control panel on sounds and devices?

    Didn't update driver recently!

Bottom right hand corner next to the clock usually. Right click this icon>"Playback Devices" and make sure speakers is the default (or whatever they show up as)
