I think we JC veterans (and Nathan ;) ) have covered everything regarding the rules between us, but in case we've missed anything, the definitive rules are listed above :p

I assume we're allowed our own Math set? Like compass etc. I have Oxford one that pretty much everyone has. Is that okay to bring in, in the box itself or should I take them in my pencil case?

My pencil case is black and not see-through (obviously). Will I get away with that?

Easons have clear pencil cases for like a euro atm, btw.

That's fine - the examiner might want to check it on the off-chance that he/she's a prick, but as long as there's no notes in it be grand ;)

Well mine was blue and I got away with using it for the two weeks - again they might want to check it but just let them - as long as there's no paper inside there's nothing to worry about :)

For personal writing with essays, does your story have to have an ending? Because during the mock, I left mine as a cliffhanger and I think I did pretty well in it.

I suppose you could, if it was done well and it was pretty clear that it was a cliffhanger rather than just a quick ending.

Are you allowed to highlight sentences on the exam papers?

I know it says that you have to use black or blue pen only but can you actually use pencils?

As long you've sort of built up to this cliffhanger - an examiner will know the difference between a writer whose essay was meant to end inconclusively and a student who panicked and didn't know how to finish/was lazy and didn't want to write a good ending. If you got a good mark in your mock essay try and remember some of it and use it tomorrow if you can make it fit one of the titles - my exam essay was completely off the cuff but I wouldn't recommend this strategy to someone unless they really like English, and even then it's a risk ;)

Yes for drawings and sketches. Try and avoid them for writing.

You have to use them if you're drawing diagrams or if you're in a drawing based exam like Tech Graphics or whatever. As regards to writing answers with a pencil, it's not advisable as we've established over the last few posts, but you can write in pencil if you really want to :)

You can but don't. The pencil will fade off before the exam is corrected.

If its a B - 6B pencil itll smudge, and H - 6H pencils are too light, thats usually why pencils arent good to use for writing :)

is it likely that a characters question will come up for fiction?

Ahh, okay. I'm going to make such a mess of it. I never got used to writing in pen after primary school and I've always wrote in pencil. Mainly because I make so many mistakes and scribbling/Tippexing it out just looks messy.

I would say fairly likely cos it didn't come up last year - either that or an overall questions (eg. "write a letter to a judging panel saying why your studied novel should win such an award", that kinda thing) :pac:
