Exhaust Silencer for NCT Noise Fail

Hey I bought a used car recently with no NCT. It's a 94 MK 3 Golf. Just sat the test there and failed on exhaust noise and emissions levels. Now the emission levels shouldn't be too much trouble cause I know there's some stuff to put in your engine that helps that, but when I told my mechanic about the noise levels he literally laughed down the phone at me as my exhaust had fallen off the week before and he'd just reattached it, he was now saying I needed a complete new one. I don't wanna go through all that bother again so was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere I could pick up a silencer that'll just help me get it through the NCT??

    1. Emissions is usually a sign your car isn't running right or your cat is shot. Putting magic stuff in your engine inst going to tell you what's wrong.
If it was my car id like to fix what's wrong or at least know what was wrong.

    2. Is it a factory exhaust? If yes then it has to be fecked to be that loud.

If its a jap cannon big bore noise maker its replace it or buy a bung.
try urbanPerformance, proparts.......... you may be lucky and they have one that fits.

If you cant get one that fits you can get one made up by someone like custom metal works or anyone who will fabricate but at that stage itll cost you more than a backbox.

My guess would be that its an aftermarket exhaust with no cat which would account for both noise levels and high emission levels. Could well be wrong there but since the limit for the NCT is 99dB (pretty damn loud) it could be likely. If thats the case then try pick up a standard exhaust somewhere including cat which could solve your issue.
