Has anyone here been to Hersonissos? Myself and a few friends are heading there at the start of July and I've been hearing nothing but horror stories since I booked it! Is it very rough and seedy? We went to Magaluf last year and got on fine, so I suppose we are looking for the nightlife.

We're staying in the Frida Apartments, anyone have any experience with this hotel? Also, would anyone know how much a safety deposit box would cost for a week, and if they have air conditioning?

Last thing, has anyone been to Starbeach and is it worth the trip? And how much spending money would you recommend, based on local prices?

Apologies for the many questions, thanks in advance for any replies!

Twenty years ago it was a great holiday location. I cant say that today it is the same. It is a resort full of Leaving Cert I-deserve-a-mom-sponsored-holiday people let loose for the first time since birth. Add in the Brit equivalent and a few Celtic jerseys wearers from Ireland and a load of blue jersey wearers from north of the border. Discover the rest of Crete and you will keep yourself out of problems. There is much to see. Dont forget to visit the Leper colony island of Spinalonga (I kid you not).

I was there May 2010 for a week & found it fine. It has a street or strip full of bars it thats whats your looking for.
Would think safe rental would be a few € a day.
Was unable to find anything on apartment in Hersonissos but did for Piskopiano

Went there with a few mates about 6 years ago.

The only really dodgy people we met were other Irish lads. A lot of locals seemed rude to tourists but I couldn't blame them after all the people I saw with black eyes and I guess we were 4 lads so they put us in to the same category.

After a bit however we found spots which were friendlier and ended up drinking with the local staff in their own hang out spots. The older type places off the strip for food seem friendlier too and nagged less as you walk by.

We did a couple of trips - to the mountains where you end up getting stuck in a village for hours with no escape and nothing to do (very boring and the drink included in the price was really really bad) and to the main city to visit the museum (which is very good if you're in to that).

Over all I wouldn't go back as there are better places to go but the weather is good and food/drink is cheap so make of it what you want - we did have a good time there overall and just avoided some people.
