professional opinion if ye wouldn't mind please gentlemen. I have an interview coming up soon and in the email of details for the interview I was let know the names of the interviewers.
and one of them is an outlier in my linkedin network as we both went through the same college department, albeit a few years apart.
I considered shooting off a message ahead of time to introduce myself and express my interest in whats going on. but I reckoned on balance it had more chance of being taken badly tough well so I didn't. if the interview goes well I may well bring it up as a conversation piece, see how he found the degree etc.

but what would you make of it if someone contacted you before the interview? interested or nuts?

    I wouldn't do it.

It is generally frowned upon making presentations before the interview.

Could be seen as canvassing for the role and you could end up with no interview. Would not do it myself!

I wouldn't make representations to that person. But could you find a valid reason to send a message to a colleague of his such that your name will come up?
