I'm not looking for C&C, I made a set of all the cars before they did their runs to show the people who didn't make the event or who weren't in the pits. It's a whole day of shooting since the sun came up and about 8hrs processing and uploading, but its only the static shots. I'll be working on and adding the track shots of the the various cars doing their thing some part of tomorrow. Anyways I hope people like them and hopefully some of them will give a closer glimpse of the cars before they become a high speed blur around the streets.

There is far too much post processing gimmickery for me to even pay close attention to the image content.
All I see are overly saturated colours U contrast, selective colouring and tonemapping/topaz adjust style images for the most part. They all look really the same to me.

I didn't look 'cos I hate flickr's lay out but from the 1st pic here I totally agree, it is more like a painting then what you actually would see with ur eyes, then again that's how most people do supercars/expensive cars these days I just think Lisa over done it somewhat. :p
The other problem it caused was it made #2 and #3 look decidedly flat in comparison.
I think all photographers go thru this topaz type style, I most certainly did and I now cringe at my old pics where I used it....then again I went thru a crossed blue PP style only a few weeks ago. :o

I think the effect works well with some of the photos, especially the Ferrari one. As someone who'd love to have been there though they're too stylised and I would have liked to see something showing the event and the cars in action more so than just nice pictures of the parked cars.

Oh yeah I definitely over did it on some shots because I was still buzzing from the excitement and the cars, heck I'm still buzzing and raging at the same time that I missed the Bavaria races when they were in Moscow. I'm working on the regular action and track shots today and I'm being less crazy with the processing. :)

Take your current processing method and turn it down by 90% and you should end up with something that a lot more people will appreciate :)

I like the set. Its an event I wanted to go to but the weather put me off.
Look forward to your track action shots.

That happened to a lot of people Spooky and I'd been watching the rain all night hoping it would clear up. It's pretty typical when today Dublin was sunny and warm again but at least the event went ahead and there were no serious crashes due to the rain. I got through all the pictures tonight and there are 100 or more action/track shots, its the same link and here's one I like. :)

That last picture is pretty good.

The only thing is I can't really tell but it feels like there a green tinge to everything. Are you adding a filter effect?

Nice one! It struck me when I saw it first that it wouldn't have been out of place in an advertorial shoot - whether people like that as a style or not is a different matter but taken on its own, I think it's quite an image. Probably worth the day's (two, three?) work for this one alone imho. Well done....

    :)

Nope its not a filter I like to try and make a lot of pictures look different so if I have 5 of the same F1 car I'll do different styles and angles so it keeps them different. It's mostly levels and the rest is drawn on with a pen and tablet. I skipped the press conference part because I knew everyone would have the exact same shots of Jenson sitting in the same place under the same light. That's fine if that's your thing and obviously its what the papers want but I like to try different things.

@AnCatDubh - I think it was about 3 days all in all. I started on the main day just before 7am and went around the route checking it out, it was about 16gbs of photos and I noticed as I was leaving I had another empty 4gb card but was too tired to keep going. It's the noise and smoke and fumes from the cars that eventually get you in the end because after a while the rain didn't matter. I used the same ear plus I use for Metal gigs and I still thought I was going deaf, I'd love to know how loud it is for the likes of Jenson when he is going flat out.

But literally nothing happened until after 12.

Did you sell any photos? PhotocallIreland had all their photos free for reproduction so I don't think anyone sold any.

@smash - the cars and the owners had to be in long before 12, I made sure to be there for that and get a look at the bodywork and interiors as well as get a few spins in cars I liked. Nah I never looked into that, I try to keep photography as less of a business so I don't lose the spark for it. I'll do weddings and things every now and then but if one of the rally guys or prodrifters wanted a picture for their wall/etc I'd just give it to them. The Aircorp wanted to buy some stuff off me recently but they got it free in the end, a few days later and invite for the Casement Aerodrome arrived so I'll have to visit soon.

Ah there are some good modal shots there, representative of the day that was in it. i have looked at a few from the set and the stills turned out better the moving shots, (the number 50's in the set) of the ferrari's club are well shot and well edited. good job.

Thanks Perry, I found another SD card tonight that I didn't know I used so I'm slowly adding some more shots. It never ends. :)

I really like the first shot Lisa, the car really "pops" at you when you look at it but I love how textured the walls look on the building to the right. Had a look through the set and I love the action shot of the gun metal Ferrari and the one that you used of Van der Garde as your album cover shot. Just out of curiosity was it your first time shooting an F1 car?

@frostie - Thanks, actually it wasn't my first time shooting F1 I used to live in Monaco so I attended the races quite a bit I just concentrated more on the partying and socializing part so I never invested too much time trying to shoot the cars properly. I knew it was tricky to get good focus on them as they got up to speed, so I was a little prepared for what was needed. I might get back into F1 again some time next year, only this time do it properly. :)

Ah yeah I forgot that you said you used to live there. I'd really recommend that you look to do it properly and get to some races, if you need any advice on getting accredited etc. let me know and I can tell you the channels to go through, its really worth it!
