i have a windows xp notebook (msi-u135dx) and i cant get it to load past the start up screen. i`ve tried every option like safe mode, last configuration, safe mode with network...etc but still no joy. it has an F3/F2 function but it won`t let me access it. it has no cd/dvd drive so came with no instalation/recovery disk. i accessed the bios and even tried all the options in the boot function there just out of chance and nothing. has any body any advice with this relly annoying problem?? thanks

Is there a USB Boot option in Bios? Some older motherboards don't support USB booting.

Did your netbook come with a manual?

There should be System Recovery Function option , have a look at the pdf file.

Thanks jarren the system has a " Hot Key" function which is the F3 button and it's pressed repeatedly juring start up ,it accesses the recovery function. It won't let itself into that mode for some reason so the only way is to recover it is through either an external drive or key or DVD/CD drive with an original xp disk which is very hard to come across. !!!

You can get a linux boot tools start up disk, it can in certain situations be able to repair your boot sector of XP. do a google for it and make a bootable usb key with it. Start the system with it and run the repair tools and see what happens.

    have a look here

Another way is to make a bootable usb for xp and clean install it. You should have no problem getting XP it seems to be available quite freely, or you could use Win 7

Thanks for that link, I ran a disk check and it told me that the OS drive is physically damaged and needs replacing. Next step new drive I think.
