I started playing basketball again 4 weeks ago after not doing any sports for 3 years. After the 3rd week (training is once a week for 90mins) my knees were hurting when i was walking or going upstairs.

I rested between the 3rd and 4th week and went training last night to see how it felt, the strange thing is i felt grand training but a while after training i started to feel the pain again.

The pain is bearable but i'd like to know whats actually wrong. Any idea what it could be before i consider seeing a doctor?

Im aware it could be something to with my knees being used alot for jumping and landing after such a long break. Any tips to help me, like exercises or anything?

Go to the doctor/physio. As I found out the hard way about 15 months ago, not every injury will heal if you jut leave it alone. Some injuries need the proper stimulus to heal.

Do you foam roll and stretch daily?

Do you do lower body strength exercises eg split squats, squats, deadlifts etc

    See a physio also

Eh or go to a physio, get an a diagnosis & read up on what it is! Why stress out before you actually know(have an educated idea) what it is!?

Can you let me know where in the knee is the pain. Outside of the knee cap, below, under?
