Yaris 2002. Play in front nearside wheel

    Hello all,

My Yaris failed the NCT recently, it stated on the NCT cert as follows:

    Item: Wheel Bearings
    Description: Play
    Location: Nearside Front

I replaced the bearing only to find, it failed again for the same reason!

Does anyone know where / what the problem is likely to be?

    It only has 49k miles.

    Thanks.

Loose wheel? Loose something behind the wheel?

    Thanks for the reply,

But there is no issue with the wheel.

I didn't know failed bearing can cause play in wheel. Are you sure balljoint or some bushings are not failed on that side. Did mechanic confirm reason for play as bearing ?

A mechanic didn't confirm the bearing as a fault.

When it was listed at the fault on the NCT I went with that, and replaced it myself.

Now I realise I should have investigated further.

Only I hoped someone may have met this before.

Hi I failed NCT last month for same reason, NCT said that my wheel bearing had play in it ( unknown to them I had the wheel bearing replaced 3 weeks before NCT) so I took it back to mechanic that replaced the bearing and he said its defiantly not the bearing, it turned out to be suspension mount also had wishbone bushings replaced.
Took car back to NCT they checked it out and passed it.

Goes to show what the NCT know.
    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Jonny1384,

It looks like this time I'll leave it with a mechanic, and I'll mention to him the problems you had with yours.
