Walk/cycle paths in Cork

There are two old railway lines (that I know of) near Cork city that have signs up as cycle/walk paths, one from Rochestown to the marina and back by Blackrock castle, and a second one from Carrigaline to Crosshaven.

Do many people cycle these? Has anyone had people give out to them while out for a cycle on these paths?

I walk my dog on the old railway line and cycle there, never had anyone complain, seems a very easy going spot.

Was in Crosshaven last friday (the sunny one) and plenty were using it. Eventually figured out why the railway signals were there.

Also did part of the Green route in Mayo, well worth the trip, my 3 non cycling companions want to go back and do the whole Westport to Achill run in 1 day

Often use the strecth from the Castle to Rochestown when I'm going out for a spin but I'd be conscious to go very easy there, it's my warm up/down spot. I can understand how people can be annoyed by speeding cyclists there, it's a family spot with lots of kids and pets running amok.

Same applies to Carrrig-Crosshaven route. Gorgeous path/surface but narrow and busy with families most of the day - I usually avoid.

Choose your time of day and you can avoid the worst of it. Some idiots seem to think that they're for dog walkers only and start shouting at you to slow down (in case you run over their prized apartamente pooch): It's particularly noticeable on the stretch from North Mall to the Lee Fields and on to Tennis Village).

Do what you like: If it were a cycling-only path, you could be very sure that you would still meet walkers, runners, dog-walkers, teenage-boozers...

I've even been given out to for waiting on the pavement with my bike (to cross at pedestrian crossings) and for cycling over foot bridges (Takes all sorts, I guess).

I agree. It's a good spot for an easy and smooth cycle while looking at the bay with one eye and at kids/dogs/joggers/walkers with the other...
