Looking for some help here, I have Sky+HD and never had problems with the signal, in the last two hours all the channels are breakng up at times yet the signal strength is the same as it always is. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing the signal break up, could it be a Sky problem any help appreciated

The signal strength on 1 is around 80% quality is 70%, input 2 is strength around 65% and quality 80%. these figures have not changed for months the problem only started a few hours ago its not breaking up all the time. I unplugged the box and waited around 30 seconds before plugging it in again, at present its breaking only now and again but its a problem that I never had before.

it could be the lnb failing.

The signal strength is only a guide. It also is very slow to react. It's not ideal for detecting a momentary drop in signal. Try swapping the two leads from the dish around. If it continues to happen it is a dish/LNB problem, if not it is probably a cable problem.

It could be the dish is shaking in the wind, the bracket/dish may be on it's way out. As already said it may be the LNB.

If the problem is the dish/LNB then if the dish is quite new, then you could get a replacement LNB, if the dish is very rustly replace the whole dish, but for this you need a seperate signal meter. A quad Sky LNB from ebay/Amazon is less than 15 euro.

If you are paying Sky they charge 100 Euro callout, a normal installer will do it for 50/60Euro. You could contact Sky and say you will leave unless they fix it for free.

Thanks for all the help guys its appreciated, I upgraded to Sky+HD last November and the installer fitted a new quad LNB on my existing dish which is in good condition, would I be able to phone Sky and get the LNB replaced free if that is the fault.

I think the entire system should be under warrently as you are still in contract, but Sky will soon set you right if not.

As I said try swapping the cables first is an easy check. It may get you going over the weekend.

Dependent on exactly which channels are affected, it could be interference from a DECT phone or similar.

If it's a Thomson Digibox (unlikely if it was new) then it will be the culprit.
