Guinness Jazz band (been to two weddings they played-absolutely brilliant) and Michael Dillon Photography.

try www.patoconnor.org, he's not a wedding photographer per se but we found him perfect for our civil ceremony and informal afters. best of luck

Hi, did you search this forum for "band" and "galway". theyve all been mentioned many times before. always have your date and general location of the wedding when enquiring as bands may already be booked.

    Louis Carr photography
    Cathal Tiernan Excel Photography
    Dillon Photography
    Sean Lydon Photography

most photographers travel though, so I'd look outside of county Galway as well.
We wanted the Black Magic Band, but they were too expensive for us due to the number of people in the band. They play at Buskers on Monday nights... love their jazzy ensemble!

A thing to ask the bands about is whether they take a recess/break during the 3 hr stint or not. We got married 4 yrs ago and at the time our band (big Galway City wedding band) didn't take a break. On the back of our wedding, two separate friends of ours booked them for their weddings-one two years ago and one last year.
By the time the wedding came along two years ago, the band took 2 breaks and really lost the momento of the crowd. At last year's wedding they took 3, yes THREE, breaks! They were sitting by the bar having a pint for more time than they were playing!! It was really bad actually as half the crowd scattered out of the ballroom and went into the bar.
So just be careful of this when making a booking. If you want details just pm me as I am not going to put their name up on the forum publicly.

For a wedding band in the Galway area, I can highly recommend Pyramid www.pyramidlive.com Brilliant, the floor is always full!!

You have to allow the band to take one break during the night. Actually most hotels insist on it, as this is when they serve teas & coffees. But there should only be one break.

    Seconded.

Long time since I heard of a wedding band doing more than 2-2.5 hours. 1 break is the norm and sometimes there might not be any break depending on when the food comes out.

I do know a couple of residency bands who will play for 3 hours and more. they take 2 breaks. usually on the hour. Usually no DJ though and the band are there for the night.

I don't mind a 5 min break on a set of 2.5 hrs but the band I'm talking about took 3 breaks on a 3 hr set! It was a joke. The entire ballroom was giving out about them. As I said, we had the same band 4 yrs ago and they took 1 break during the 3 hrs. We had no complaints about this and 2 friends book them as a result of seeing them at our wedding. The band in question did not provide DJ for our wedding or for the other two weddings.
