Your suggestions please. Sub €700 Guitar and Bass rigs.

The good the bad and the ugly? What are you using and what are your mates using?

    depends on what you want.

I want versatility, and the possibility of using it as a small PA

    I have a Marshall AS50R acoustic amp.

multiple inputs and really clear sound.

for electric I use a Variax and a POD XT live for all my modelling needs.

for my bass rig I have the amp section of a Trace Elliot Combo, recased as a head. cost me pennies off ebay.

Looking to use it for rehearsal mostly, recording and the very odd pub gig if necessary.

20watts and preferably Valve throughout. Head and Cab rig even better.

Bass wise I suppose hybrid, valve pre with tranny power amp. Head and Cab preferred.

Is 700E your total budget, or 700E/each?
Might be difficult to get head/cab valve set for 350... unless second hand.
For rehearsals, and occasional gigs you can get away with cheaper equipment. But for recording---
I've tried recording using cheap (around 250E new) Fender fm-212 amp, and the amount of noise, hisses recorded was really bad. But it performs well in loud environment, very loud for the money paid, and nice for some blues'y sound. Wouldn't recommend it tough to anyone, unless you need something cheap and loud.
For 700 you should be able to buy some nice combo. Be it Vox, or Fender - that is what i like. You would have to try them out to decide really, as the specs don't sound. What kind of music would you play btw (or is it for other musicians to play?)

If it's 700 both I'd say Laney LC30 for guitar and Peavey Mark III or IV and a cab for bass. There's a mark III and 2x10 cab on adverts atm pretty cheap. Obviously the listing has nothing to with me...

There's also an odd looking Peavey Butcher head on adverts going cheap.
