Hi, I've been searching around for a new laptop. It's something basic I'm after, ideally DuoCore/Core2Duo rather than any of the newer iCore types. If anyone can help me find these older, but not second hand, types I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm looking to spend €200-€300, but maybe it's not possible to get one for that…

Hi, I've been searching around for a new laptop. It's something basic I'm after, ideally DuoCore/Core2Duo rather than any of the newer iCore types. If anyone can help me find these older, but not second hand, types I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm looking to spend €200-€300, but maybe it's not possible to get one for that price. Graphics don't matter, just a semi-decent processor and ~2gb ram. HDD size doesn't matter either.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge about these things.
Any help greatly appreciated

You won't get a new computer with a core 2 duo, they've been discontinued for a while now. You could get one with a pentium dual core but not under €300.

What is the laptop going to be used for? 200-300, will only get you a netbook. You'll need 400-500 for a new laptop.

Thanks for the help, that seems like a good deal. I might take a look through netbooks too as maybe they might be suitable. Only issue is a lot of them seem to come without a disc drive I'd be using this for burning cd's too!

The atom processor that are in netbooks are really poor performance wise. Not exactly what I would call semi decent like you are looking for.

I'm considering making do with my old laptop for using Office and the likes and maybe getting a new tablet for internet browsing etc.

I found this one on ebay

Resistive screen, old processor. Not very powerful. Android is absolutely horrible on a resistive touchscreen, imho.

In general, if you're looking for an Android tablet make sure it has a Cortex-A8 processor and a capacitive touchscreen at a minimum. You might want to search for tablet recommendations on the Android forum too.

Resistive touchscreens are absolutely awful on Android, trust me I had a resistive touchscren phone, tablets will be even harder. Look for capacitive

As EarthlyPangaea said, head over to the Android forum. You'll get more narrowed advise on tablets there..I'll see ya there haha
