today i finished work a couple of hours early so i thought i'd take out the .223 to do a bit of bunny bashing. the permission i was shooting on is usually full of rabbits but today there was very little movement. as i approached a ditch i spotted a fox at the other side of the adjacent field so i dropped to my knees to use the bipod resting on the ditch. i gave a quick squeak to get him to turn, aimed for the boiler house and took the shot. it was a clean and instant kill. rangefinder read 147 yards

i shot only one on the way back to the car, 120 yards off hand and the hollow point pretty much turned it inside out :D

i'm only starting to get used to the balance of the 26" heavy barrel for shooting off hand so i was pleased with it, you wouldn't hold it up for too long though

rather than start a new thread i thought i'd just update this one with foxes number 4 and 5 for my new remington 700. both were shot using remington umc 55gr hollow points. the first two pics are of a vixen i shot from 140 yards, she stopped to have a sniff around and as she was bending down there was not a clear shot at the vitals so i took the headshot which i normally don't on foxes. the bullet removed most of her bottom jaw and tissue etc. on exit.

the last pic is a young vixen that surprised me by coming over the ditch rather than through the gap in the ditch where i had expected her so she got in to 90 yards before i shot her square on in the chest, instant and clean death.
