    Lads,

Well nearly dry with feckin JFC troughs overflowing.

How do ye find them. I have the ballcock ones with the white pointed thing shutting off when the pressure of the ballcock comes on it. Problem I find is that the white nib is fairly narrow and unless the ballcock is exactly flush with it, the adequate pressure is not applied and water keeps coming.

Any one find this or have a solution for it.

Has become a big problem for me in the last week as I got a stronger pump with higher pressure water.

Either turn down the pressure on the pump, or else replace the nozzles in the ballcocks (pointy white thing with hole) with high pressure ones (smaller hole).

The JFC's wreck my head. If there isn't a ball cock problem, there is the warping problem and it's overflowing. Bought alot of them a number of years back ( 20 of them !!!!) , was very sorry I did. They are the round ones 150 gal and bigger. The ball cock system is crap and the little box that the ballcock has to sit in in the round ones are stupid. The plastic is also too soft, so if the to support ground isn't 110% level, it twists and leaks.
I noticed lately that they seem to have a new design on where the ball cock goes. Too late, I will never buy one of their tanks again. Slowly replacing them with concrete ones. So far the concrete ones have been trouble free.

Bought four 250 gallon JFC drinkers a while ago the big round ones and I have the same problem with them. The only way I could get them to stop overflowing was to drill a new hole lower down and fit a standerd short arm ballcock. Havent come across the warping issue yet

think the warping is mainly in the big round drinkers, total disaster... also we had to put soe of the small ones down in concrete to stop them being moved

can the ball cock arm/shank not be bent downwards to stop fillinf the through sooner and shut off the ballcock with more pressure

i know the smaller box ones have a highered section in the middle that doesnt let you bend the shank as much, but if you replace the white insert with a bigger bore one you get the same flow from a more limited movement on the shank????
have a few like this, but they are a pain in the a**e

Word for word that is my exact experience with them aswell,I bought 22 of them thinking my water problems would be solved .I ended up buying 22 very expensive gate valves to turn each off after use as they simply let the water pour over the edge even when on level ground .Never again will i use anything made so badly and unfit for purpose. Pure JUNK!!!

Gonna be buyin a heap of these soon and was counting on the JFC's being ok.
Have a few on a rented farm and havent had any problems so far but they wouldnt have seen a whole pile of action

Does anyone have any idea were you'd get decent plastic troughs or even steel? The troughs have to be moveable.

Yeah, have concrete ones on the home farm and aside from 2 that cracked cant really fault them.
Only downfall is their fixed in one place. Would like to be able to move the water with the strips when I'm running a back fence and be able to run out water to subdivided fields.

Is it common for the concrete ones to break because of frost? We have a lot of plastic ones and they too are breaking my heart with continuous random overflows.

I wouldnt say so. I have my suspicions that one of our two cracked when some monkey was given the job of moving it.
The other was def frost but it was during that -20 spell and I'd say it was missed when we were throwing timber into the troughs in Autumn.
Thats out of 30 or so troughs, most 8 years old

That's the good thing about the plastics, once they are empty, the cows will move them for you. :D . Nothing better than seeing a herd of cows using a 180gal tank as a football on a hot day.

Re the tanks cracking. The older tanks, tanks of long ago, were known for that. But the newer ones don't crack as easy. They are better made, well a lot of them are anyway.

thanks lad. off to the Co-op today so to see can i get a better fitting.

i the same as most of ye. thought i was doing a great thing getting in these troughs. High Pressure valve my a**e.

Have all the troughs level so that shouldnt be an issue (by a LIDL spirit level though so maybe they arent)

Anyway, at least I have great growth round the troughs - no shortage of water there:D

Will let ye know if I get it sorted.
