Hey everybody, I am 21 years old and this is my story. I had a lot of ear infections as a child and i got grommets on 3 separate occassions. The last time i got them in i was 7 years old. The grommet in my right ear fell out when i was 17(i actually caught it). However, the grommet in my left ear is still there.
I suffered from ear infections every 4 weeks for the last 2 years. It has had such an impact on my life. I am just finished college but i can't go working for the summer because of this grommet. I use to do a lot of sport but i can't anymore.
The reason why this happened is that it was thought i was suffering from post viral stress syndrome due to constant tiredness. I was finally got referred to an ent specialist. It took 2 months to wait for the appointment. There i learned that the grommet in my left ear needs to be removed. I was told this at the end of april 2012 and i won't get it removed until july 2012.
It is super frustrating. If anyone can offer any advise in this situation. Is there an ent specialist i can see abroad which will perform the procedure in a more swift manner?????????????????????????????? I need to get this grommet removed a.s.a.p I need to get my life back.

Do you have private health insurance ? if so, you should be able to get it done very quickly. I note that you say you have a surgery date for July ? obviously tomorrow is the 1st June so you only have approx 4 weeks to your surgery date, not great but not too bad either.

I got to the ent specialist on 17th april and i was orginally told it would be in mid-june and not it has been put off until mid-july. it is just unbelieveable. i can't work for the summer and i'm very limited in what i can do. it is very debilitating. i do have vhi. God help me if i didn't

Yes, we couldnt do without the VHI either. So I assume that your surgery that is planned for July is being done privately. In real terms, I cant see you being able to get it any quicker by going down the line of seeing a new ENT privately, because you would most like have to wait say 2 weeks for an appointment and then schedule the surgery etc, but I have one route for you to consider.
Most of the new type private hospitals have their own a&e, take for example the Hermitage Clinic, what you could do is to turn up there (you would be liable for the 120 euros) bring as much info as you can with you, see the consultant there and you could get an emergency app with the on-call ENT surgeon. Now I am not saying that this would definately work, but I know of my uncle who had, how shall I put this.....a very painful pile......went to the Hermitage A&E, had it removed that evening and home the next morning, had he gone the 'normal' private route, I guess the whole thing probably would have taken a month. Its something to consider anyway
