Friend ruining my motivation

I am having trouble with my friend getting in the way of my goals. I am trying to get fit and build muscle and it takes a lot of dedication.

My problem is he can be manipulating at times. For example if he asks me to go out he guilt trips me into it. I do enjoy going out with him but not drinking 3 or 4 times a week.

I know it's partially my fault for not saying know, but I guess I hate saying no to people. Sometimes I think he takes advantage of this. I wish I had the will power to say no. Does anyone have friends like this?

    Hi Op,

Doesn't sound like much of a "friend" if he is manipulating, takes advantage of you and is not respecting choices in life.

If he is a freind you should be able to just be honest with him, tell him how he is making you feel.

It might seem a bit harsh but just ignore his calls and texts, might make it a little simpler.
And If he has anything to say about you ignoring him just simply say that you already told him you weren't feeling up to drinking every night of the week, and if you answered his calls he would only change your mind which you don't want.

Hes manipulating you because you let him. If you dont want to go out 3-4 nights a week then dont; its quite simple. If you think its getting in the way of your fitness goals then tell him that. Be more assertive!

time to put on the big boy pants OP - what do you want to do - hang out with your mate or stay focused and achieve your goals?

there's nothing wrong with reducing the amount of time you see your friends.

This is more about you OP and less about your friend.

Next time he asks, just say, sorry, can't make it tonight as I'm training. I'll see you Saturday.
Alternatively, you could invite him to your training sessions.
