Audi A3 coolant warning

    Alrighy lads,

I bought a '04 A3 (2.0tdi) a couple of weeks ago, last week driving through the Sally Gap the coolant warning came on the dash
I pulled over, checked the levels (which were fine) and switched it back on again and no warning light/fault
I thought it mightve been the incline that moved coolant away from the sensor so I continued on

The same thing happened again last night though driving on a flat surface, and same again this morning on the m50

Levels are fine, I've checked each time it's come on, and the temp gauge hasn't gone above 90C

Anybody have any ideas what the problem might be?
A quick google search says the sensor may have deposits on it

    Cheers!

Most likely deposits on the sensor as you say. Open the coolant cap and look down into the expansion tank. You will see the 2 metal probes of the sensor. Get a long flat screwdriver or similar and gently scrape the 2 probes. Should solve the problem.

You sure it's a coolant warning and not something else?

You sure it's a coolant warning and not something else?

The coolant symbol with 'coolant' written underneath comes up on the dash where the mpg figures come up
    Hopefully it's not something else

I'm going to give George's advice a bash when I get home later and see if it makes a difference

I've also seen the wires on the plug of the coolant level sensor get kinked and break, so have a squint at those too.
