The battery being removed shouldn't have any effect, not like that even if it was booted up at the time.
Sounds more like a virus/malware that was knocking around a while ago.
What antivirus have you installed and is it up to date? If none install avast or avg.
I reccommend you install malwarebytes antimalware and do a full scan with that.

You may need to download these on a different machine and install and run they on your laptop in safemode.

I would recommend you back up your important files and take them of the system. You can then do a fresh Clean Install of windows 7, bearing in mind that you will need a Windows 7 installation disk, installation disks of all your programs as you will be completely cleaning the hard drive and everything on it will be lost. you can also export your browser bookmarks and settings as well.

A restore, a recovery, or a virus seeking expedition can take a lot of time and yield no results or improvements, sometimes problems like this are due to software conflicts and are often caused by automatic program updates which interfere with the smooth running of the system.

The clean install gives you a fresh environment and you should be done in less that an hour. If this does not fix the problem then you have most likely go a hardware issue of some kind
