Colaiste Eanna - Europe's feeder school

Peter Lawrie has qualified for the US Open. By my reckoning this makes him the third ex-Colaiste Eanna pupil to do so, along with Harrington and McGinley. The three of them have already played in the British Open. And there weren't even any golf lessons out there when they were all kids either. Perhaps we should be drinking whatever they drink in Rathfarnham!

And I think those 3 lads used up all of Colaiste Eanna's golf talent allocation......that's my excuse anyway :D

I'm back with some more Colaiste Eanna trivia! I don't think anyone has mentioned it but one Colaiste Eanna student voted for another yesterday - Peter Lawrie voting for McGinley.

So not only do they have the distinction of a Walker Cup pairing (Harri/McGinley 1991), a World Cup winning pairing (1997) and a Ryder Cup pairing (2004/2006), now they have the remarkable honour of one of their former students helping another former student to become Ryder Cup captain. That's some feat in fairness.

I remember being in the school when they won the world Cup. They brought in the trophy & there was a big school gathering in the hall. Was great craic & they seemed like sound fellas.

And yeah, golf in Colaiste Eanna wasn't exactly promoted. I've a vague recollection of there being a mention of golf once or twice, but there were only a couple of lads in the place ever brought out playing (me not included, golf wasn't even on my radar at that stage of life)

But then again, I was a Tallaght Scum outsider, so maybe I didn't get an invite as they thought I'd rob the equipment :D

'Tallaght scum outsider', love it. Don't mention that when you're looking for tickets to Augusta!

I started there when Paddy was in 5th or 6th year. Golf was pretty big with them at the time, the "first team" at one stage had two internationals and 3 inter-provincials !!

The rest of us mere mortals got a few games when the others were off playing in something else. We were thrilled when they finished the Leaving, meant we got more games :D
It was great, our home ground for matches was generally the Grange or the Castle, so plenty of golf on good courses !!

Didn't realise Peter Lawrie went there as well- I was in Ballyroan National school for a year - always remember Colaiste Eanna as a Basketball school.

It was when I was there. Basketball crazy and some great teams. I know the golfers where mentioned a fair bit but nothing major really.

Wish I had of started playing golf back then!

Michael Dara Macauley was a international basketball player when he went there. Other ex pupils of note were Collie Moran (Dublin Capt), Niall Mellon, Sean Hughes, , George Lee and current Dubs hurler Paul Ryan.

A great sporting school alright, I think with the amount of good hurlers that pass through there its possibly not a surprise that a few good golfers emerge as well.

I didn't realise Lawrie went there as well, what club did he play out of as a young lad?
