CameraZOOM-20120529081225885[1].jpgHi guys. I have just had some renovations completed and finally got my kitchen back in yesterday and the sink and washing machine and dishwasher connected.

When I came home last night my wife had the dishwasher and washing machine going and along the side of the house was covered in water. The waste for these and the sink are all going out the same pipe. The drain was blocked and I managed to more or less unclog by removing alot of slit and grime (horrible smell; can still get it out my hands after 2 showers and washing them 20 times!). The problem is that the pipe coming out of the wall is leaking as well. I have some pics below. What is coming out of wall is 1.5" wavin I think and it looks a bit too short for the elbow thats on it. I had to chisel back some mortar to be able to connect the elbow to pipe so wasn't just running out. Now its ok but seeping a little. My question is how I can get a good seal on this. I found another bit of old pipe with a longer elbow on it but will need to connect it to some other pipe or is there something I can buy to replace the whole outside bit of pipe and will connect to what is coming out from under floors. I'm guessing i need some plumbers glue as well to make the connections so a guide to what to get and how to use would be great.

    Thanks!

This is an easy fix. If the pipe is loose and can be taken apart then just go to a plumbers suppliers and get wavin weld. Its a brush on glue.

If its stuk solid then just get new pipe and elbows in 1.1/2"

I would also get 1.1/2" wall brackets and clip it to the wall as well as a little cement and seal the hole.

Thanks Joey. Wasn't sure if could still get 1.5" pipe. The pipe is stuck solid except where it's joining with wall. Maybe a stupid question but can you get elbows in different sizes. Part of the problem I think is that the original pipe coming out of the house is short and the elbow is not reaching in far enough on the pipe for a good connection if that makes any sense. You can see on the wall where a small grove has been chiseled to get the ipe tighter to the wall.

Should the weld be applied to the connections or the pipe and do they need to be dry?

    Thanks again, much appreciated.

The pipe needs to be dry as in dry with a rag. Your kinda over ananlysing it. But i understand you did not do it before.

Just buy the glue and stick it. If it does not work replace the pipe.

Where do you live....Not exact address. If your on my commute i will drop by and look at it.

Thanks Joey. I guess I'm overanalysing it all right. Just a bit paranoid as its been a nightmare of a rennovation and have had a couple of minor leak problems already and prefer to get it right first time. Will do as you suggested and if have problems I might take you up on your ofter if you pass the Rathfarnam area. Thanks, much appreciated
