Illegal?? or just against Sky's terms and conditions?

Whether it is morally wrong, legally wrong etc. it is theft of service, and can not be discussed here.

Lots of things might be sneaky, but you can be sure Sky would cut you off if they knew it. There are lots of other ways to steal/copy content too but it's not to be discussed here.

Illegal or not, isn't this dangerous having 2 boxes connected via the phone line with different electrical supply?

I remember a few years ago a friend of mine who wouldn't be anyway technically minded (like me:)) called me to come have a look at his wireless internet as it had stopped working... There was a fairly simple problem; there was no phone line connected to it. Turned out he had been tapped into his next-door-neighbours service without knowing it. The neighbour changed provider and got a new router that had security.

No. Some of Sky's T&C are just civil contract. But others are criminal. Fraud and "Theft of Service" are criminal offences.

Of course "copyright infringement" has damages set by civil court case, not statute and the money goes entirely to "victim". In Criminal cases the State gets proceeds. So when people use Dodgy boxes on UPC cable (criminal theft of service) UPC proceeds with a Civil case at their own expense, the loser pays UPCs costs later. They are not interested in a Criminal conviction.

Getting a "free install" for new customers when you were a customer previously is fraud. Getting cut price "multiroom" for a separate premises is Theft of Service. Both are criminal.

Using a legitimate Sky card card (that is properly paid for) outside of Sky box or designated country is purely breaking the contract, the T&C alone. ALL they can do (and they are entitled to) is terminate the contract and card.

Actually illegal or not, this isn't up for discussion here.
