Didn’t want to hijack the other thread on mapping.

I am thinking of getting my Saab 93 1.8T remapped for more BHP and better fuel efficiency.

Was looking for any recommendations, places to avoid etc? Also are there any other issues to consider apart from insurance?

Not possible. Its one of the other. Tuning for efficiency means less BHP.

Interesting; rang one guy early and he said he can get 25% more bhp and 10% fuel efficiency!!

It's possible to get small mpg gains if you go for a safe map and still get decent bhp and torque increases.

The top rpm increases are not the goal though a smoother power curve is.

The fuel savings usually come from you having to rev the engine less as you have more power throughout the range.

How's the GTI going bud ?

Thought i was getting one today turns out no warrenty and owner wanted 11,500 for a 2006 and wouldn't budge on price, lol.

Not true at all, increased power means less labour on the engine at lower rpm, less labour at lower rpm means better mpg. Simples

Increased power and using every available horse all of the time will of course kill mpg but given two equal conservative driving styles then mpg will increase

Thanks for the replies- so we have established that you can get both :)

Anyone got any recommendations of places to do it? I had a look at chippedire website but doesnt mention Saab so will ring them tomorrow.

What kind of price does it cost on average and what kind of increases should you be getting?

€1331 to bring a 120bhp 93 to 140bhp - surely there is some mistake there.

    I would have thought so.

A place i rang a few weeks ago (can't remember the name) wanted €400 odd to get me from 150 to 190bhp.

Auto-tune are doing it for me..already did it for one of the mates nearly a year ago in his 525d and he's still going strong in it..very happy with their service and highly recommends them.
I would have gone to autoremap or Joe Power (chippedire)but I'm down in Limerick and don't have the chance with work being so busy at the moment to take a day off and get it done. It's a 200Km trip to those lads :(
