I am not sure if this is in the right place just looking for a bit of advice.
Between 1st and 4th ring on the back cassette the chain jumps, slips and isnt coordinated with the front lever. It changes of its own free will too occassionally.
Is it a big job or is it easily fixed?
I am not sure what caused it but everytime I go to a shop its costing me.
How much would I expect to pay or is DIY the way to go?

Sounds like your chain (and maybe cassette) might be worn.

See this article (esp. sections on chain life and skipping chain).

It's easy to change the chain yourself (just make sure you use a "click-on" type chain connector). You'll need a special tool for changing the cassette.
