I have a 00 ford focus and on the drivers door the key won't open the lock on the door but it will lock the door, so I have to open the car by using the key in the passenger side, has anyone else had this problem and any ideas what can be done, thanks.

This is not unusual and is normally down to a worn key or seizing mechanism. Try the spare key if you have it.
You could also take off the door card and lubricate the hell out of the linkages while constantly operating the central locking. Use WD 40 or the like.
