He did a lot with his life considering who he was around and all the things he went through.
Fair play to him for fighting.
    RIP now he can rest.

Boxer Johnny Tapia was found dead Sunday in New Mexico, this according to local police.
Family members say Albuquerque police were summoned to Tapia's house at 7:45 PM Sunday by a family member who discovered the body.
Cops say the death does not appear suspicious, but an official cause has not been determined.
Tapia is a 5-time world champ. His life was marked by tragedy. Tapia's dad was murdered while his mom was pregnant with him. And when Tapia was 8, his mother was kidnapped, raped and hanged.
Tapia was admitted to the hospital in 2007 in critical condition from a cocaine OD. The day after he was admitted, his brother-in-law and nephew were killed in a car accident on their way to visit him.
    An autopsy is pending.

    RIP

A seriously tough man, who was dealt an absolutely terrible hand and still overcame it and achieved an enormous amount.

Awful news, but to be really honest I'm not that surprised.
I always liked him, especially when you see the long list of disasters in his life and how he achieved so much.
    But I didn't think he'd even make 45.

Damn. That man had so many battles in and out of the ring. Not a surprise he left this world at a young age, but I always hoped that he would beat the odds and have a long life with some peace in it.

I can still clearly remember the long build up to his fight with Romero, and the genuine excitment there was about that bout.

If there is any kind of afterlife, then I hope the little man with the big warrior heart finds solace there.

    Amazing life he had.

Shame he lost the biggest battle of all, but I will say a quiet prayer that death will provide him with the peace he couldn't find in life.

    RIP.

It is a great documentary, however, having read his autobiography, "Mi Vida Loca", the documentary really only touches on the hardships Tapia experienced. I would strongly recommend the book to anyone interested.

Thanks for that, even though I found it a very emotional watch.
Johnny was the original wild kid with a heart of gold.
You just couldn't help liking him.
I remember the big buildup to the Romero fight and Danny was the favourite and a cleancut type, but I just wanted Tapia to win sooooooo bad. It was one of my favourite wins ever.

You're right too about all the other hardships that were left out, but I suppose there's only so much you can fit in in the timeframe.

That documentary has edited out a fair bit.

The full 82 minute version is here https://mega.co.nz/#!MYwF0QoR!KuuzVH-NWXQJWsNulatGcepbthQDkR0c7XoqeSrmPX4 . Worth a rewatch even, its probably the best sports docuementary I've ever seen , heartbreaking stuff.
