How to stop syphoning

    Hi folks.
Someone might be able to help with this query.
I have a home made herbicide applicator. It runs of a 12v connection on the tractor. My problem is that when the pump is turned off it syphons more product out continuously and wastes allot. I have been looking at a 12v solenoid valve which would stop the line (1/2 inch), it could be wired in parallel to the pump and operate on the same signal.
Is there anything else simpler I can do as I'd rather not spend another €50 on a valve.
    Any suggestions welcome.

Yeah. Just connect a tee peice in line just after the pump on the product side. Then add a little bit of hose and a valve. When the product is being siophoned by you make sure the valve is closed. Afterwards make sure its open to stop the vacuum effect.

Yea I appreciate that would work but I only have a 12v connection into the tractor.. I would need to pump for 20-30 seconds every few minutes so it would be impractical to be up and down, starting and stopping..

What I was wondering about was a tee and one of the automatic air bleed valves for a heating system.. I thought it would close then the pump came on and then when the system was syphoning would it open and stop more liquid being syphoned on ??

Why not just install a simple anti-syphon valve? It will only allow liquid to pass through it under pressure, i.e. whilst the pump is on.
