Is there a way to do this that actually works?

In UserCP, Edit options, set your 'Default Thread Age Cut Off' to 'Show Threads from Last Year'.

Now when you sort a forum by replies it will default 'Prunedays' to 365 instead of 1. You can then change prunedays on each search individually
(it'll be in the url address bar).

Clumsy, but will do until they fix whatever the bug is, I guess.

The datehinting? Nah, that won't get fixed :)

You can just use the filter at the top of the forum page above the threads, no need to change options in your user control panel.
