It look to me like "Gran" changed her mind at the last minute and decided against the idea of jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft :)

I dont get how that happened, did she wriggle out of the straps or something? She was bloody lucky to survive that.

I was incredibly terrified when I did a skyjump but there was no way I was going to not be shoved out the door :)

She was never going to fall out of the harness, she was hooked up at the shoulders, It would be nearly impossible for her to come out of both leg straps. Even if she did there's the rest of the harness. In reality she was in no danger of separating. In fact even if one of the shoulder straps let go, the other one can take the weight.

She did panic at the door and they exited completely out of shape. That's where the problem arose. I think the Instructor was more worried about the opening with her facing the wrong way.

Generally in tandems once attached you're going out the door with the Instructor. I remember it said. 'It's not use shouting "no, no, no". It sounds like "Go, go, go".':D

Regardless, the tandem master should have used some discretion with an 80 yr old woman.

It was his attempts to press on rather than her struggling that caused that.

No doubt, a lot of it is down to the tandem master's failings. Loose straps, forcing the issue and a very bad exit.

Apparently though she wasn't too bothered and has no regrets. Talking about driving a racing car now. Hopefully they will tighten up the straps better this time.
