Well i see there's no thread yet (peeps be getting lazy!) :pac:

Anyway, the favourite for the last few days, Parish Hall, was this morning ruled out by Bolger due to a leg infection.

My fancy for it is Trumpet Major. Not beaten far behind Camelot in the English version, connections feel he'll be better suited to the ground today. Even though the French horse Hermival finished a lenght ahead that day I think that horse prefers softer ground so im confident TM will overturn that form.

Of the rest i like Daddy Long Legs, who could go well at decent odds, Colm O'Donoghue is very good riding a horse from the front and if he gets too much rope he could be hard to catch, like in Meydan 2 runs back. You can write of his Kentucky Derby run as he was drawn wide and was never given a race and pulled up.

I might be going, hopefully I will be. Don't know if I'd be having a bet in it though, possibly Hermival

My moneys on a Reverse Forecast on Wrote / Daddy Long Legs

Trumpet Major or Hermival are the form horses. Junior gets to ride daddy's best horses so somewhat reluctantly Power is the best bet of them. I wouldn't be in the least bit worried about his flop in the English 2,000 guineas. Plenty of O'Brien horses have flopped in the English 2,000 guineas and bounced back.

2011. Roderick O'Connor, beaten 38l by Frankel wins the Irish Guineas.

2009. Mastercraftsman, beaten 4 1/2l by Sea The Stars wins the Guineas.

Both GP1 winners at 2yo like Power

I wouldn't write off Daddy long legs, Dr Devious was well beaten in the Kentucky Derby and came back to win the Epsom Derby.

If you don't like the O'Brien horses it's a coin toss between Trumpet Major and Hermival.

Might have a small bet on Born To Sea on the off chance that he's a much better horse than his run at Newmarket would indicate.

I'm so possed off its beyond belief. I won't be able to go because to get from enniscorthy to anywhere bar Dublin I need two trains or buses that will take about 5 hours. I'd say Africa has better transport

That's craziness! Local Ladbrookes not running a bus or anything? Mine does all the time

I like Daddy Long Legs. If he is over his Dubai exertions he has a great chance at the price

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

Parish Hall ruled out with leg infection. That done him for the Derby next surely?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

I'm not betting the race but I want Born To Sea to win, naturally.

I am baffled by the price of Born To Sea and pissed off. I took him at 8/1 A.P. and even though Parish Hall came out, BTS is 10/1!!

The quicker ground will suit him better imo, John Oxx has fitted him with a hood to help him settle and he has been working fine in it. Oxx even said by not settling he cost himself any chance last time out.

Dunno why you thought taking him antepost was going to pay off. No one is talking about him after that run at Newmarket and with the hood going on it hardly inspires confidence. The question marks over him aren't the type to make him shorter in the betting. Sorry for after timing you bet.

Just heard a tip from Murtagh for Born To Sea...
    [excuses for Newmarket]...and I think this fella's a horse

    :pac:

Power for me, don't worry about the English guineas. Daddy long legs and trumpet major for the places.
Takar very interesting, looked very impressive in his last race, tho you don't know how good the field really was

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

Looks a good each way race if you fancy any of the front 3 or 4. With firms paying 1/4 the odds the place terms steatite advantageous

Doesn't matter a jot to me about people talking, I back on my own opinion.

Pat Smullen is a retarded ****, if he had him closer he would have cut them down.

Did he really think he was going to make up 20 lengths on Daddy Long Legs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,645 ✭✭✭Luap

Smullen only good when he's in front.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

The hood definitely made a huge difference.

Sick as a pig, lost plenty of money on that.

The hood seems to have made a big difference alright huck. That was a good performance. He was just too far back with too much to do. Still looked babyish compared to the rest but is back in interest for races later in the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭d-gal

Whoop! Power blasts home, best horse in the race, won well and had to be pulled out, should of won by more.
Thought daddy long legs was going to do a homecoming queen but just ran out a gas. Trumpet major very disappointment. Born to sea good improvement but nowhere near what was hyped up about him over the winter..yet!

I don't think much of Smullen as a jockey unless he's on a Weld horse, he seems a nice guy but I can't remember him doing much for any trainer bar Weld.

The horse didn't seem to be that interested, I thought Smullen was pushing him for a while towards the end of the race until the penny finally dropped late on. Does this mean he should be tried over further? I had him down for a potential sprinter after he seemed to show plenty of pace at Newmarket. What's his trip?

Made the running, he looked like he might hold on and he stayed on to finish fourth when they caught him.

I backed Daddy long legs ew, if i'd know he was gonna be sent off a pace maker i would have kept my wallet closed. I think this horse had a very good chance if run a bit more conservatively, maybe a 8f if a bit far,, july cup???

He won the UAE derby over 10f from the front.

but he was sent off at suicide pace today, uae derby was at least run as if they wanted him to win

Obviously pocket talk but this is a common misconception that many people have. They see a horse finish strongly and think if he was further up with the pace he would have won, which isn't a fact by any means.

If the horse was ridden more freely he may not have finished as strongly as he did. The feeling I got from watching it was the horse would benefit from a step up in trip, I certainly didn't think it was poor rode nor would I consider Pat Smullen a "retarded ****".

The thing which I found really poor was how Niall McCullagh gave the winner plenty of room to come off the rail, he really should have held his position and squeezed up the space.

Sure I had money on but Frankel wouldn't have won from there, he left the horse no chance. Piss poor ride for me.

He did not have to be ridden more freely, Smullen could have given him a bit more rein when they swung in to let him take closer order.

He finished like a train, he will get further but he showed himself to have a decent turn of foot.

Whoa now, let's not get crazy. I think it fairly obvious Frankel would have beat that lot from anywhere :)

Perhaps somewhat over the top :D

That said it doesn't matter what you are on if you are 20 lengths off a group 1 winner at the three you should shuffle the horse to take closer order.

In the cold light of day I still feel he left him far too much to do, pity his highness had a runner in the race.

He is entered in the Palace Stakes, I would not be put off backing him after this showing.
