Engine overheating, fluid disappearing?

I have an 06 Fiat Idea diesel. Last Saturday I got a warning to turn off the engine and add coolant. Bought two bottles and put them in, job done! Today I see the temp rising again and the engine sounded growly. Checked the fluid level and it was empty again? Thought there might be a leak so bought another bottle and put it in. It disappeared! No leaks at all?? Checked everywhere.

    Any ideas?

Could be a head gasket failure. Does the coolant look milky in the reservoir?

The little side part of the reservoir? No.

it could be seeping into the engine, check the oil to see if it looks watery.

    Was the oil level high?

It was fine, not over the mark. It was serviced in March.

Well it has to be going somewhere. If its not in the oil, its on the ground.

Def not on the ground. Will check the oil level again after the last bottle disappeared tonight!

are you filling the coolant up by means of the rad, make sure to fill it up just below the filler cap then turn the engine over( dont run ) a few times to remove any air traped inside then check the level is ok and top up the resivior between levels dont overfill.
take the car out on a long run and check how it goes if it still overheats you have a leak somewhere. look for stains around the engine,a good sign the head gasket is gone.

There's a plastic tank that you fill, not the radiator. No signs of any fluid anywhere under the bonnet?

Its possible that when you poured in the first two litres you may have caused an airlock, and when the air cleared, the level dropped again.

Top the coolant up to the max mark and run the engine up to approx 2500rpm for a couple of mins. If the level hasn't dropped and your interior heating etc is working ok then all the air is clear.

However, the coolant has to have gone somewhere so you still need to have a couple of tests done to see what the issue may be.
