    Hi All,

I started noticing vertical coloured lines on my laptop screen a few months ago and it's gradually getting worse. More lines appearing and bunching together. I use autocad so with the black background it's a pain in the whole. What's causing it does anyone know?

Also, is it repairable and if so how much do ye think it would cost?

Sounds like it could be your screen. If it is the screen it can be changed to get a better idea on the price if you post the model of your laptop it would help.

It's a Packard Bell EASYNOTE W3910 laptop. Thanks.

Its is either one of the following,

LCD panel: nothing to fix, only replace it. These screens are on the expensive side so you could be talking about 135 euro or close to it.

Screen cable: sometimes the connector from the screen cable at the block connector on the system board suffers what called 'thermal creep', heat from the system expands the connection joint and the result is what you are describing. This can be tricky to solve as its a process of elimination. It may be the cable itself, the block on the end of the cable, the connector on the system board or it may take all 3 replaced to solve this.

You may like to rule out software and the graphic chip buy plugging the laptop into an external monitor or LCD tv and seeing if the problem is displayed, if not it is most likely one of the above.
