Don't know about food procucers but it looks like the arts are in for it tonight.

Moore McDowell can always be relied upon for a cranky word or two.

Am I the only one hearing Windows "exclamation" sound ??

Well maybe Denis O'Brien should subsidize it from the license to print money he was handed by Michael Lowry.

That fellow from the gate with his posh after dinner cocktail talk, get out of it and cut the funding, bunch of toffs.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 18,184 ✭✭✭✭Lapin

If, as Michael Colgan says, the Gate Theatre returns every penny it receives to the exchequer, then surely it can manage without a subsidy ?

Did I not hear "RTE supporting the arts" after all of the ads for this "playwright's" play..

So her point is that the subsidised arts have made some actors and musicians like Bill Whelan Millionaires. Thats her point?

Why aren't they having a treaty debate? Have the art chat whenever. I know they had one debate but surely a second isn't asking for too much.

What would you expect, looking forward to his after show party and cocktails id say.

These people who frequent The Abbey and The Gate live in a bubble, they believe everything they do is so worthy and fool themselves into believing they generate cash for the Exchequer.

Waste of money, and hey Michael Colgan - the money you squander could be used to perform more operations on seriously ill patients.

Times have changed, let the luvvies fund their own entertainment.

50 people on the dole costs €488800 in payments.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 12,333 ✭✭✭✭JONJO THE MISER

Yeah people on the dole are going to be going to the opera:rolleyes:

We're not talking about the book of Kells tho, we r talking about taxpayers funding plays staring Keith Duffy.

    Well spotted Jon
    4. RTÉ support may fall into one of two categories: free advertising or matching advertising.

    http://www.rte.ie/about/supporting_arts.html

Another inbred RTE scheme to give freebies to their own.

a lot of money wasted in the hse
They'd pay for the arts with hse savings

This is the worst frontline I've ever seen I think, for the first 30 minutes i didn't think there was an audience.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 12,333 ✭✭✭✭JONJO THE MISER

The elite serving the elite, cant stand the one with the pouty lips.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,873 ✭✭✭Skid

I think the Frontline audience is always noticably quieter when the show starts at 10.30 rather than 9.30.

It is a bit too late for an engaging debate.

Fiona Looney on that stage arguing for not cutting the arts budget is doing more harm than good.

When I look at her luvvie face, and consider that horrible 'modern Irish women' crap she churns out, I want all arts funding to not just be cut, but obliterated...

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 12,333 ✭✭✭✭JONJO THE MISER

Your man from the gate cant handle getting caught out, your man was right he said he went to New York and told people the country was not broke when it is, fair play to your man for getting on that.

If this was Liveline the Duffer would be wheeling out Lorenzo De Medici's descendants to give us an exclusive on how he would feel about arts funding now.

What the hell are the DeMedecis being brought up in debating funding the arts in 2012? Jesus. This is a total strawman argument based on tired cliches about arts in this country, cliches and stereotypes already indulged in this thread. Ooh err, check out 'dem ponces and snobs with der arty ways  The Arts may not be entirely commercially viable, but it makes money back in dozens of different fashions; slashing its funding won't put a single extra person in a hospital bed.

I'm all for community projects, funding for arts for kids and schools, but the "darlings" of the theater world get up my goat.......they live in another world as far as I'm concerned....
