Difference between mens and womens clubs

A female friend has asked me about clubs, (of which I know nothing about), she is just starting to play golf is left handed but would like the full set of irons not just a starter set. Most places I have looked (online or local pro shops) have a very very limited number of left handed clubs, also there seems to be a wider range of left handed mens clubs.

Just wondering if there are massive differences between ladies and mens clubs? And would a set of mens clubs be ok for her?

I really would nt recommend them for her, especially as she is a beginner. She would need to be tall , strong and with a fast swing speed to be able to get the ball into the air. The clubs will be heavier and stiffer. Also the grips are thicker. All in all , not suitable I think .

Thanks for that Curly, she has one left hand club that is mens that she has been hitting so I might try source her a ladies one to show her the difference in them.

    Cheers again

As stated above, massive difference, mainly in the shafts, but also grip size.

Tried this before. My misses hits her 7 iron 125 yards, she can barely hit mine 100.

Shafts arethe main one, you can "just" replace the grips depending on hand size.

Same with my friend its actually the 7 iron she has and was hitting that about 100 - 110, so would be very interested to see what she could do with ladies clubs

I know, if you had women's shafts with mens grips you could just replace the grips.... ;)

A couple of years ago I was told by a kilkenny based pro that there is a higher precentage of left hand golfers in hurling counties meaning the shops there carry more left handed stock. Depending on where she's based it might be worth a few phone calls to golf shops in the nearest hurling/camogie county to see what stock they carry. Micheal Horan's shop in Birr Golf Club might be worth a call. as they also have a driving range. Hope this helps.

Thats a great point actually hadnt thought of that, she said she is right handed for everything except camogie and golf now (she tried both right and left handed and the right didnt feel in any way comfortable or natural)
