A question please to anyone in the know.

If I buy something by mail order from Germany who's vat rate do I pay ?

The reason i ask is because I bought something by mail order from Germany. They deducted the German rate of vat @ 19% & charged me the Irish vat rate of 23% ?

Its not a big amount but I just wanted it clarified by someone who might know the vat system.

    Thank you.

    What they've done is correct.

Generally "distance sellers" of any size are registered for VAT in all the jurisdictions into which they sell. So they charge VAT where the buyer is resident.

It's different for business to business sales.
