Im 36 years old and I had surgery 20 years ago and was left with stitches from my pubic bone right up, and to the side of my belly button! I have always been 10-20lb over weight. Only once I was down 9.5 stone, and my bulging stomach was even more noticeable!!! My little girl is 6 years old and I am desperate to get in shape finially!! I suffered a bad back for about a year and a half!! I have just started exercising again, and realize strengthening my core would help protect my back in the future!!!
Do you think there is any way I can strengthen my abdominals at this stage!!!
Both for my back, and the fact I don't want to look 6 months pregnant, when I'm not!!!! At this stage I am doing pilates 2/3 times a week, running, cycling and swimming!!

Sounds like it could be lordosis/anterior pelvic tilt, but I wouldn't rely on internet diagnoses. Best thing you could do is see a reputable physiotherapist; you want to be sure you're going the right way about fixing the problem.

If you have a bad back, ideally you need to see someone who can assess you and give you exercises that will help you, rather than risk further back problems. Have you tried talking to your pilates instructor about your issues?

If you lose weight, you will lose it all over, but it will help the appearance of your tummy too. You have made a good start with the exercise, but I do recommend getting advice from a trainer or physical therapist.
