Thread has been probably done to death but would be nice to get an updated one and it could help some people with boredom, like myself, who likes to browse Youtube and watch tonnes of matches down throughout the years.

My favorite match of all time and I guess I would consider it the best the WWF/E ever made was Austin vs HHH at No Way Out 2001 in a Three Stages Of Hell Match.

    God I miss those days.

A notable second would be Mankind Vs Undertaker at KOTR 98.

    Whats yours?

Total spot fest but still the TLC at WM17 does it for me everytime

6 man hell in a cell at Armageddon in 2000 was prob my fave. The rock, Stone Cold, Kurt Angle, Rikishi, Triple H and The Undertaker. Quality line up

Any of the TLC/Hell in a cell in the late nineties were classics

Id probably have to have a bigger think about it but off the top of my head my favourite WWF/WWE match is probably HBK vs Taker (Hell in a cell) at Bad Blood 1997.

Ultimate Warrior and Macho Man at Summerslam '92

    You are favourite? :pac:

My favourite match was, and still is, the submission match from Wrestlemania 13 between Austin and Bret Hart. Just an amazing match.

Second place would again feature those two but with eight other guys too. The Canadian Stampede ten man tag. The crowd was off the charts and it was a great end to an amazing PPV. Who can ever forget Austin trying to fight all the Harts in the crowd at the same time by himself? Plus, Owen Hart getting injured and coming back to a hero's welcome along with Austin being led away in handcuffs and giving the finger to the crowd.

    Love that PPV.

1997 is probably my favourite year in WWE since I started watching.

Angle v Benoit v Jericho triple threat for the Intercontinental and European belt was pretty sweet. Angle held both titles, first fall was for the European, second for the Intercontinental.

Loved that match, my three favourite wrestlers at the time, I was happy whatever the outcome!

Yes! Mine too. There had been a ban on them touching each other before the match hadnt there! Then they just started swinging punches, and both those guys had some of the best punches in the business. Fully unloading on each other.

This was one of the few feuds that the hate between the two guys was sold so well. It was ****ing great.

Either Trips vs Stone Cold 3 stages of hell from NWO 2001

    or

Trips vs Foley HIAC from 2000

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,491 ✭✭✭thebostoncrab

Cliched answer I know, but it's that way for a reason: Macho Man vs Ricky Steamboat. Just a perfect match that I never get sick of.

My second favourite is always changing from the following list:

Dean Malenko vs Eddie Gurerreo, 2/3 Falls in ECW

Samoa Joe vs Kenta Kobashi, ROH

Chris Benoit vs HHH vs HBK, Wrestlemania XX

Cactus Jack vs HHH, Royal Rumble

Dynamite Kid vs Tiger Mask, NJPW

Angle/Benoit at the 2003 Rumble probably, crowd is super into it

Rock Vs HHH - Backlash 2000.

Might not be the best match of all time, but definitely my favourite. Last 10 minutes of the match are just fantastic.

I was actually just watching this the other day going through youtube looking for attitude era stuff. the buildup to the finish with McMahon laying out the Rock with a chair then the glass shattering and the crowd going absolutely batsh1t mental for Austin is brilliant, attitude era crowds rocked.

WM 20 HBK v benoit v HHH for world heavyweight title what a match, also eddie guerrero v JBL for WWE title on smackdown when he frogsplashed off the top of a steel cage never forget it!!

Undertaker Vs Yokozuna - Casket Match - Mid 90s

In terms of just a straight one-on-one match, Undertaker vs Michaels at Wrestlemania 25 is an obvious choice - surprised it hasn't even been mentioned yet - but I'd actually say Michaels vs Jericho from WM 19 is my favourite

Anything outside of singles matches, I could roll a dice and pick any number of things

Rock and HHH ladder match at Summerslam 98 was great, actually that whole card was iirc must give it a watch again.

Bret Hart (WWF Champion) vs Shawn Michaels (Intercontinental Champion) from Survivor Series '92.

    Great match with excellent commentary.

If I had to choose just one I would go with Rock V Austin at WMX7. Not the greatest technical showpiece, but told one of wrestlings greatest stories in arguably WWEs best and most enduring rivalries.

Outside WWE, If there was only one match I was ever allowed see again it would be Samoa Joe Vs Brian Danielson at Fight Of The Century in 2006. Said it many times before but that match is pro wrestling perfection.

Orton & Edge v Michaels & HHH prob bout 5/6years ago. no idea what ppv

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,116 ✭✭✭starviewadams

Hogan vs Rock at Mania 18,maybe not the best technical match ever, but from a working the crowd point of view it was phenominal stuff.

Also have a soft spot for Taker vs Rock vs Angle triple threat match for the Undisputed WWE title from Vengeance 2002.Incredible match:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,500 ✭✭✭✭DEFTLEFTHAND

Its really hard to give a definite answer. Some of favourites would be Angle v Benoit at WM 17 , Benoit v Malenko at Hog Wild 96 and for the high spots the TLC at Summerslam 2000.

That match was the closest someone could get to "real" wrestling.

Shane broke Angles tailbone when he suplexed him on the floor and Shane had torn about 4 muscles in the match.

Amazing.. Watching it now on youtube again.

Definately has to be the Iron Man Match between HBK & Bret Hart at WM12 for me. I can't remember being as into a match as this (although this year HIAC with HHH & Taker was close)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 725 ✭✭✭Varied

What I loved about the attitude era was the ridiculous lengths some lads went to to entertain.

Two matches stand out for me, both from the AE, as I no longer watch it.

Remember thinking, how the f*ck can they still be alive after some of the jumps and chairshots.

Greatest of all time, stone cold steve austin, at his technical best, yet almost taken down in his prime.

There are 2 for me but I can't remember when they took place.

Benoit vs Jericho: I just remember Benoit doing a suicide dive through the ropes only to be met by a chair from Jericho which stopped him mid air and thinking it must;ve been like hitting a brick wall to stop him moving as fast as he was.

Billy Kidman vs Paul London: I remember they were both faces and this was just a great high flying match

Mankind Vs Michaels from Mind Games '96
10 man tag from Canadian Stampede '97
Cactus Vs HHH from Rumble 2000
Rock Vs HHH from Backlash 2000 - (AUSTIN, AUSTIN, AUSTIN!!! biggrin.gif )
Benoit Vs Jericho ladder match from Rumble 2001
Angle Vs Benoit Ultimate Submisson from Backlash 2001
Angle Vs Shane O'Mac from King of the Ring 2001
Angle Vs Mysterio from Summerslam 2002
Lesnar Vs Undertaker HIAC from No Mercy 2002.
Edge/Mysterio Vs Angle/Benoit Vs Los Guerreros from Survivor Series 2002

And I'm gonna throw out the first Bryan Danielson Vs Takeshi Morishima match from ROH Manhattan Mayhem simply because it's my favourite match.

It was far down on the list of quality matches even on the nite but the gimmick battle royal at WM XVII was always a good laugh to watch.
Most enjoyable match ever oh boy is that hard to pick Benoit vs Angle Ultimate Submission, Styles vs Samoa Joe vs Daniels, Joe vs Angle at Lockdown and so many more.

Mania that year was about 100 miles from Austin's hometown in fairness, they even cheered for him after he turned heel with Vince sure!

cactus & gnfnrhead, yes. Yes I agree!!

My favourite match of all time is probably Michaels/Taker Hell in a Cell @ Bad Blood 97 as well. The build, the storyline, the drama, the payoff, the brightness of WWF's future, this match had everything. I only watched it recently and flooded my twitter about it lol.

The build up was that HBK inadvertently cost Taker the WWF title back at SummerSlam and turned heel because the fans scolded him over it. He had been ducking Taker since (evading getting his comeuppance), cheap shotting him with his mates (HHH/Chyna) and managed to scarper out of the main event a month prior in a no DQ match. So for Badd Blood they created a cage, with a roof on it, so he couldn't escape and no-one could interfere. They even checked underneath the ring before lowering the Cell! HBK had also been feuding with Bret Hart, the WWF champion, whilst Taker had been tormented by Paul Bearer for the last 6 months that Taker's brother (whom he believed died in a fire Taker started) was actually alive.

The psychology of the match was brilliant; Shawn had nowhere to run. Immediate payoff of Shawn getting killed at the start, making a comeback, being annoyed by the cameraman getting in his way multiple times, beating him up and getting stretchered out. Shawn saw the opportunity to escape, but he only got battered worse; speared head first into one side, bump off the cell, right back around again until they got back into the cell and was locked! Then we saw the debut of Kane -who looked fúcking amazing- and the shock of a barely conscious HBK crawling out of a pool of his own blood to drape his hand over taker and get the win. Bravo.

97 is my favourite year in wrestling. It was my first full year back watching wrestling; and the metamorphosis WWF did in the year was crazy; starting at the doldrums of the New Generation Era and finishing heading into the Attitude Era. Bret's heel anti-America storyline has tried to be recreated so many times and never had 1/10th of the traction it had. A really very special time in wrestling where WWF had their backs against the wall and were going out of business....so they tried really hard, built new stars and fought back more ferociously than ever before. It was awesome.

    My three favourites would be

    1.6 Man HIAC
    2. Mankind v Undertaker HIAC
    3. TLC (Hardys v Dudleys v Christian and edge)

but I have to say triple h v taker at wrestlemania 28 this year was a classic, undertakers entrance actually sent chills down my spine like it used to
