Chrome fine, Firefox fine, IE8 won't open any sites!

    Hi

I normally use Google Chrome to browse on my XP SP3 desktop. (I know but I can't afford any upgrades right now).

Chrome is working fine as is Firefox which I use occasionally. My problem is that Internet Explorer won't open any sites. I can run IE8 but if I attempt to open any sites it just says: ' Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'.

This is not a HUGE problem but I'm just curious as to why this is happening.

    Any advice? Thanks
    Max

Is it set to 'offline mode'?

Make sure under File that "Work Offline" isn't checked.

EDIT: You might need to close and open the browser after you change that.

If that's not the problem, go to Tools - Internet Options - Connections (tab) - LAN settings (button) and click Automatically Detect.

    Thanks for quick reply.

No 'Work Offline' is not checked.

You can try to reset explorer completely. Go into options (i think its in the file menu) then go to the furthest tab on the right (i think its advanced) and then there should be a reset button.

This suggestion was included in the link supplied by johndoe99. Didn't work.

you could try a fresh start, by uninstalling and re-installing Internet Explorer 8, just back up your favourites first.

    Uninstalled IE8.

Left with IE6 which seems un-installable. IE6 has same problem.

Re-installed IE8. Still the same. Tried disabling MSE just in case it was doing something weird but still the same.

I can only presume that something I have installed is effecting IE8.

Anyway I still have Chrome which I normally use anyway, and Firefox is fine also.

    Thanks for help.
