    Opinions,

If one of you were buying a car, would you buy it privately on websites like donedeal or at a dealer?

This is where I'm at, I could get a car cheaper privately but will have no warranty.

Whereas I would pay more at at dealer but car will come with a warranty. The dealers are still making a profit from what I can see.

I'm going to buy a 320d soon and deciding if il buy it privately or not? Unless someone can warn me into not making this decision. I would bring two mechanics with me when seeing car.

IMO its six of one and a half dozen of another. A second hand car off a dealer is still a private seller who traded in.

You'll pay a premium to a garage for the warranty, if you cover yourself by having the car checked thoroughly by a competent mechanic, there's no reason to pay more for a warranty.

If you are bringing a decent mechanic with you when looking at the car then I would defo go private. No point splashing out extra for a warranty if you have a decent mechanic. They should be able to spot any obvious fault and they should take it for a test drive. They'll know what to do themselves tbh.

The two big advantages of buying privately are:

    1. You get to meet and assess the seller at their own home.

    2. It's cheaper.

Don't bring two mechanics, one good one will do. And be sure to do all the checks - ie finance, history, and verify the FSH by calling the garages who did the work.

I buy car if it's good. The last thing on my mind is who selling it, private or garage.
I would check car at dealership same way I would check car in private sale. In the end of the day all dealers getting cars same way private seller gets its - from another person. Then again dealerships can get their stock from auctions and god knows what they can sell on to you.
All the warranties they give for second hand cars are just.... Well useless. It becomes way more hassle then then good.
I would even be more in to buying privately as you can see what sort of person owns that car, where's the car in the garage has no background that you can check. You just buying blindly for extra and very dodgy warranty.
