Hi guys, just wondering how I record mileage, until now I had a van from work with no issues, now Ive a car and my boss says to fill out on a daily basis where Ive been and the mileage ive done, shes a bit of a stickler in 'case we get audited' kinda person, but I dont want to be watching my miles to that extent.

for anyone with a company car how do you manage your work/home mileage, any help appreciated.

Why not? surely it's in your interests to record it correctly, so that you don't get charged more FBT than you are due to pay.

sorry I phrased that wrong, what I mean is I dont want to have to write down the mileage when I start the car and when i get out of it every day, other reps I spoke to said they just give a monthly reading to their bosses at the end of each month. im a bit scatty and my mileage is well over the max i need for the 6% rate but Im sure I'll forget to take down certain days etc when Im really busy.

what im asking I guess is how does the revenue want to see it, do they want a break down of where you were every day or monthly mileage or what way does it work

    thanks

We had to use google maps to show what mileage we did for expensing it back. Pick the longest route ;)

I set the thingy that measure mileage to 0 every day and write it in my diary. However, I have to account for every trip for auditing purposes.

In a previous job, I set the tracker to zero every week and did it that way.

In my old job, whenever I had to leave the office for work I would set it to zero & write down the reading in my diary when when I got back. The date, destination & rough time would also be in the diary. Then just transfer the info over to the wage sheet/expnse form at the end of the week & give it to admin

Thats not worrying about being audited. Thats keeping an eye on you to see if you are using the car beyond the purposes of work. Which lets be honest, most people do with company cars or vans.

Trust me, if you accurately put down your mileage your boss will be onto you saying 'how does x, y, z amount to that fuel usage?' Mate, shes even asking you to put down where you've been.

But whats the deal with fuel? you get extra money for fuel allowance or do you get reimbursed? etc.
