..prompted by another thread, I thought I'd throw this out there for comment..........so, we've had a 9-3 1.9TiD for the last 4+ years, and it has served us very well, and we've had no problems with it. (150bhp Vector Combi model).

Anyhoo, having changed my own sporting car to something smaller recently, we were toying with the idea of changing the Saab for something more voluminous, to carry bikes etc - Grand Scenic in particular comes to mind.........we have someone keen to buy the Saab at the moment.

Now, as it turns out, most Scenic's are diesel, 1.5dci here, and a lot of 1.9 dci in for UK imports.
    But there's something's I know we DON'T want - any car with a DPF.

So, if car shopping, and obviously diesel, is it even possible to buy a post 2006 diesel car that DOESN'T have a DPF ?

It's either that or...........a 1.6 petrol. I wonder which would really cost more, in the long run ?

We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

It's definitely possible, the BMW 320d didn't get one until late 2007 at the earliest. I don't know what other cars don't have them, though. I know DPFs can be a bit troublesome, but is it really a deciding factor?

i drive a clio when i'm working in france and the 1.5dci is just about ok in that, wouldnt like to try run anything bigger with it.
I dont think it has a dpf, or at least ive never felt it do a regen like on my alfa. And these cars (we have 3 of them) only do short runs, no dpf/egr type probs yet after 1.5yrs.

Not all the 1.5dcis have a DPF though do they ? Mine is a 2010 and I'm pretty sure that I saw that the DPF filter had an x in a spec sheet somewhere.

They have recently changed the MOT regulations in the UK regarding dpfs meaning removal is not permitted. I really do wonder how long it will be before this is brought in here.

And destroying a working dpf is a waste, especially when a length of pipe to fit in its place can be easily fabricated.

Yeah I'm almost certain the mothers 2010 Megane (105 bhp) doesnt have one.

I think the later engine revisions do, where the power change from 86 & 105 to 90 & 110 bhp.

Theres different outputs. The Clio generally has 80 bhp I think. Megane has 86/90 & 105/110. The Scenic and Laguna only got 110 afaik.

Yeah, I think the revisions that arrived sometime towards the end of 2010 came with them fitted. I'm pretty sure I asked the garage last time it was in for a service for confirmation and they confirmed there was none.

DPFs only became manditory on new diesel cars from the begining of 2011 afaik. There are plenty of cars out there before that which don't have one fitted.
