    Young,British and overpriced.

    Have we fúcking learned nothing?

Surely there's better than Joe Allen for £15m?

Where's the figure of £15m coming from, it's not in the Sky Sports article?

Imo Allen's got something about him far more than most of the British youngsters, but at that price you could get a young player several rungs higher up the ladder.

I've seen that figure in a few articles the last few weeks. Seen upwards of that figure quoted too. All speculation of course.

Was our "system" built around him?

I know very little about Allen, but our transfer targets this season are seemingly as uninspiring as they've ever been. Dempsey? Borini? Allen? Are we aiming to cement our place in mid-table or bridge the gap to the teams above us?! :(

Without that wheelbarrow of money, I'd be astounded if we paid north of £10M for him. Maybe a deal with Spearing on loan or something, to sweeten it? Not Shelvey though...

Sky have gotten precisely NOTHING right so far.

Went downhill fairly rapid after Lucas was out alright.

In fairness to him, far too much was expected of him at that point, he was never bought to be that kind of workhorse all action midfielder.

Thats what they said about Henderson.

Looks like our "scouting system" is doing fck all again this summer. All the players we've been linked have worked with Rodgers. Oh apart from Dempsey...ooh they've unearthed a real unknown gem there...

Getting Allen for £10m or under would probably represent good value. He's a good prospect but he's no Alonso.

Throw them Joe Cole as part of the deal.

    I know I'm coming across a negative ****er lately but to be perfectly honest, if we end the window;

    Out
    Maxi
    Kuyt
    Carroll
    Aquilani

    In
    Borini
    Dempsey
    Allen

There's a very strong argument our squad would have been weakened over the summer.

Funny enough, Adam might be more at home under Rodgers as in a 3 man midfield.

    In a 4-4-2, he's not suited.

Did Blackpool play 4-3-3 when he was with them? I think they did.

Still only a backup player though.

Adam looked good for us admittedly, but was he a standout performer from the team? No.

He was by far and away the main man at Blackpool.

We can sit here and argue about systems here all day, but the fact of the matter is every good manager has them. It's ridiculous to think that they don't. Rodgers is constantly talking about his philosophy on football and how everyone will have a defined role in the team. That, I'm afraid Alan, is a system.

Just because Dalglish was devoid of one doesn't mean you can go around jumping down people's throats as soon as they discuss said systems.

Rodgers will in all likely hood change the way the system worked for him last year, seeing as though Liverpool is not Swansea, but if he does sign Allen its probably to do the same role as he did last year at Swansea.

Also, I'm not saying he'll only have one way of setting up a team. I fully expect Rodgers to change tacitcs/system depending on the opposition we face.

Jesus Christ if we ended like that this place would explode.

Even if we keep Carroll we still need another 4 signings.

    Aquilani

Not that I think this is likely. We need at least one winger brought in too.

I hope we do more business than that, otherwise it will be uninspiring.

One more and possibly most important is:

    Back In
    Lucas

    Give it time son! :D

I don't see any suggestion that Aquilani will go (unless someone makes a Cash offer), and if Carroll goes, I would expect another striker over and above Borini and Dempsey. No way would we let 3 strikers (front 3) go and only bring in 2, when Rodgers is talking up our need to attack more and score more goals...

And a reminder to all - 6 weeks of the window left!!!

Either we are conducting our business in remarkable secrecy (not likely when the Borini & potential Dempsey deals played out/are playing out in the open) or else we are heading towards a quite frankly incredibly disappointing summer.

Let's not pretend aquilani has been part of our squad for the last two years. His exit would make no difference

If he stayed and gave us his all he could be a fantastic addition to the squad.

However, I'm fully expecting him to have a cracking pre-season with us,and then píss off to Italy by Sep 1st :o

It would if we plan on spending £10m & £15m on someone to play in a similar role in midfield. Dalglish never should have let him go, Rodgers doesn't get a pass if he makes the same mistake without bringing a better midfielder into the team.

There are 6 weeks left! Just because we knew about these two doesn't mean we know them all. There was also rumours of Blaszczykowski, Ramirez, Moses, Davies, Allen, Johnson, Sturridge...

There is no chance we know all the targets yet, and no chance that the list of ins and outs you had would be the final one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,664 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Well:

    Lucas
    Cole (You never know)
    Aqualani
    Kelly

All back fit is a major plus.

Adding Dempsey and Boroni to that isn't too bad.

I really expected this window to be one of the more low key in recent years.

I never got the feeling that Aquilani really wanted to stay in England tbh.

Was more than happy heading back home.

As for his troll of an agent...

He doesn't want to be here, I thought that was fairly obvious. If we let Aquilani go and buy another midfielder, that midfielder will be a long term solution. Aquilani will never get another contract at Liverpool.

I could live with our squad as it is if we added Lucas backup and a wide player. Dempsey will replace Bellamy if he comes in.

like it or not I reckon Sterling is going to play a really big part this season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

    LOL :D He really isn't.

I reckon he'll do well to get a start in the league & will make maybe around 5 sub appearances.

And re: Aquilani, he's been quite vocal in saying he has no problem staying at Liverpool, but he can only do that if he's told he's in the managers plans & he doesn't wanna stay to just make up numbers. Fair enough.

    on the money.

Allen is a very good little player, but you could get Belhanda this summer for about that, and he's on another planet IMO.

He'd have been a bit part player at Swansea.

he's just biding his time, on his decent wage, until a decent Italian teams comes in. Aqua does not give a shít.

    i don't for a fact.

but in all likeihood, given his contract status, and the fact he's not quite hit the status of European superstar yet, and the fact there would be no English/British premium, i'd be confident enough we could get him for under £20m if we made a proper push for him.

Trust me Joe Allen is no Charlie Adam which is a good thing .

But as mentioned the fee or between £10-£15 million is crazy and we could land Bellhanda for that .

But for me the Bellhanda talk gets labelled under "fantasy" like that of the Aguero, Hazard etc links

if he stays and puts in a shift for us, then I'll happily retract.

but at the moment, everything is just talk. it's the same with Rodgers as a whole. i'm enjoying everything that he's said so far - he's said all the right things. but that doesn't convince me of him yet, at all.

just like all the talk in the world about or from Aquilani doesn't convince me of anything until he actually does it.
