Child Travelling with Friend's Family

My 13 y.o. son will be travelling to Spain with a friend and his family to Spain on Ryanair flights in a few weeks.

He was invited to join them after they had bought their own flights, so they have different bookings (on the same flights). I want to pre-empt any nasty Ryanair surprises or legal issues with authorities in either country, so I am hoping someone has experience is this type of situation.

Even if this is not a Ryanair requirement, my plan is that my wife and I sign letter authorising my son to travel with this family, and get the gardai to stamp it. I will call the Foreign Affairs Dept tomorrow to find out if there is a form or template for this purpose.

    According to Ryanair:
You will need to book the passenger under 16 as an adult online and once the booking has been completed you will then need to contact our call centre with the following information:

    • Both booking references so that we can cross reference the under 16’s booking with the existing booking.
    • The child’s passport/travel documentation details.

The first problem is that when you click in the call centre link, there is no contact number to call, so how do people get around this?

What would happen if we show up at the airport with the letter of authorization, but without making this call to Ryanair?

    Thanks for any advice.

I would definitely ring them and get the booking updated on their system. They would not be obliged to accept your letter, and a phone call could sort out the issue relatively hassle-free.
