Hi there, not sure if this is the right section but thought here would be the best place for it. Lately my internet connection has been playing up, and has just generally been pretty **** (its UPC 50Mb package). Now on my computer whenever I try to download anything it'll stop after a few Mbs, even opening a number of tabs at once or running a speedtest kills the connection, and I have to disconnect and reconnect to get it back.

Now the connection isn't great on other devices either but I don't have this issue with my laptop. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver software but that didn't do anything, does anybody know any way I can fix this? My wireless card is an Edimax 802.11n Wireless LAN card if that is of any use. Thanks for any help you guys can give!

click, settings ,advanced settings, channel ,change channel from existing to 7 or 5.
to get into router, i think its.192.168.1.1

To change any setting on the modem, you need to log on to it. In a web browser, enter 192.168.1.1 which will bring you to the log on page. Leave the username and password blank. Press OK (not Cancel) to log on. Most of the settings you will want to change are under the Advanced tab.
try changing encryption from wpa2 to wep.
you maybe getting interference ,ie you have 3 neighbours on default channel, same as you.

i increased my speed by 45 per cent by doing this.
    first just try change channel,
does it work,be4 going near encryption.

Please, please don't try this. You're leaving yourself wide open security wise, and you won't notice any speed improvement. In fact, using WPA2 with AES is likely to be faster because AES encryption is performed in hardware.

Changing channel is a good idea, especially if you're in a built up area. Grab a program like InSSIDer to scan the area and see what channel your neighbours are using. It may be that you're simply too far away from the access point or you're getting interference from another source. Wireless phones, microwaves, baby monitors etc can all interfere. In that case I'd recommend Homeplugs. I'd actually recommend them regardless; I find them much more reliable than wireless.

If your using homeplugs you may have to switch off DHCP. As in my case, my neighbour had them as well and was able to tap into my network. So assign all computers a static IP. Change the default IP settings as well.
