1939 Ritterkreuz des Eisernes Kreuz (Steinhauer & Lück)

    Hello All...

I haven't posted anything for a while and have sold off most of my EK collection, but I thought I might show my latest addition...

A very nice, early, B frame Steinhauer & Lück Ritterkreuz (Knights Cross of the Iron Cross).

These types are somewhat controversial, as Steinhauer & Lück used these dies from approximately 1944 and continued to produce crosses using them up until the first 1957 RK's were produced. However, by then the dies had been almost worn out and had developed many flaws. The wartime crosses were of extremely fine quality when compared to the later versions which also used a different 'silver wash' type of frosting and core paint type.

My cross doesn't have these flaws and is of exceptional quality and extremely well finished, with the correct wartime type of white frosting and wartime type of paint on the core. Unmarked, although the loop is stamped 800.

But, I have to accept, that the odds are it was assembled post-war from left-over wartime parts.

Sadly, some idiot engraved the reverse (there is no known Ritterkreuztraeger O. Schüller from Jagdgeschwader 51), probably to try increase it's value, when in fact, it has done the opposite.

Still, I am very happy to have it in my collection, it is as close to a 'official' wartime RK as I can see myself ever being able to afford.
    Hope you all like it!

That's a fantastic item, I believe the first time an RK has been posted on boards (by it's owner). Congratulations !!

Very nice RK. Well done to you. :)

Any thing got to do with Jagdgeschwader 51 / JG 51 Mölders is a very sought after which explains why it was engraved so. Maybe some flyer who felt he deserver an RK after the war and issued himself with one ha.

Congrats all the same you have a great piece of history

I believe they also had the highest number of RK awarded in the LW. I also had a quick look for the Pilots name but could find no record. I would be more familiar with non LW RK Lists though.
