Saorview Interference?

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of a problem with Saorview in the house. We have a Saorview approved Sony Bravia TV, the signal and reception are perfect, the problem we are encountering is when we plug in an electric device in the kitchen or turn on a light switch with get an interference on the television for a second, like it stutters.

When we plug in one of our old Saorview boxes and use that we have no issues with interference at all. We have an outdoor UHF aerial.

Any ideas on what we can do to sort the issue? Thanks! :)

It might be the case the TV locked onto a weaker signal from another transmitter and didn't select the strongest signal?

What UHF channel (or frequency) is the TV receiving Saorview on, and was the Saorview box on the same?

Thanks for the reply! Yes they are both connected to the Kippure transmitter?

Are you comparing like for like, i.e removing the aerial lead from the tv & plugging into the Saorview box? You're not bypassing any other devices?

Yes I am comparing like for like. The aerial is connected directly to the TV, and then tried connected directly to the Saorview box.

Try doing a factory reset on the Sony and re-scanning all the channels. It may help. Your TV signal may be nearly on the limit. Was your aerial professionally installed recently?

Normally all sorts of weird things can happen if the signal is quite weak.

Thanks for the replies! The signal strength is not the problem, we have excellent signal and quality. It seems to be some sort of electrical interference when using the built in Saorview tuner in the TV when we plug in something close by.

Our aerial was professionally replaced/installed about 2 years ago.

I had a similar problem. Intermittant picture freeze/breakup for a couple of secs. Done my head in. In the end I discovered (Thanks to help from members on board.ie) that it was an electrical interference. After much searching, investigations and blaming the neighbours I discovered that the main fuse on the fuseboard was actually burning in its socket on fuseboard. I got the fuse and socket replaced and interference stopped.

Before i found the electrical fault i removed masthead amp, this improved things slightly.

Thanks for this, I will have to look into it on our fusebox. Could this be the problem if it works perfectly on two other dedicated Saorview boxes in the house though?

Also as per the suggestion above, factory resetting and rescanning did not resolve the issue!

    !

Some tuners would be more sensitive than others.

It could be a coax quality issue.

I had a similar problem while using a short cheap coax connection lead in the distribution chain - lights switching on, the spark from a gas ring lighter or spark plugs from passing cars would cause the picture to freeze and jump.

The cheap lead was just a temp option and the problem was solved when I made a new lead using digital signal grade coax.

Are you using a standard shop bought coax lead anywhere in the system?
