Guys just need some advice on best rifle for vermin control at a average range of 200 yards that wind doesn't affect too much . I have a .17 which is great to 100 yards but with any kind of breeze is very unpredictable . Any advice greatly appreciated

aim 5 feet to the right and let the wind bend it into the headshot;)

If someone farted in the next parish it would blow the .17 off. ;-) A .223 sounds perfect or a hornet but ammo can be pricey for the hornet.

i think a .22hornet would be perfect, while the ammo can be as expensive as .223 ammo the rifle itself can be picked up for very little money and it is a hell of a lot quieter than a .223

i have both so i am not biased

There is now .17 Hornet ammo offered by Hornady. Its reported to be good out to 200. Google ".17 Hornet".

    +1 on the .22 Hornet.
I was in the same boat as you a few months ago and went with the .22 Hornet. I most definitely don't regret it. I got a CZ527 in .22 Hornet for handy money and it is a really nice rifle. Shop around for ammo.
Its well capable for what you require. Very low recoil and not as loud to shoot as some of the other center fire calibers.

I have a 223 great rifle for foxes at 2 & 3 hundred or beyond. You can buy ammo for 14 to 16 euro if you shop around (Remington or American Eagle). The only draw back i see with the 223 is weight:eek:.they get pretty heavy when you fit a moderator, bi-pod, scope, & maybe a scope mounted lamp. So with the 223 i get comfy with good place to rest the rifle & call the foxes to me. If i go for a walk around i bring the 17 hmr. I have friends with hornets & they are a great piece of kit, but seeing as i have a .17hmr i just like the extra bit of bang the 223 offers over the hornet, just my 2 cents

17hornet is a different calibre entirely to the 17hmr.

Dont think ANY Rfd stocks them..

Its new in the states!! let alone here..

I agree with remmi if you already have the .17 skip the hornet and go for the .223. Nothing wrong with a hornet but 223 will get you out a bit further
